Construction of the Beatrice Blackhillock substation began in May 2016. The electricity produced by Beatrice will travel a total distance of round 90km along subsea and then underground cables to Blackhillock.
The substation will receive the electricity and transform it up to 400kV for onward transmission on the GB transmission system.
Our contractors, RJ McLeod (of behalf of Siemens Energy Management), are utilising as many local businesses as possible during construction.
Local businesses have been providing plant, materials, services, accommodation and food.
The largest substation components arrived by boat and were transported by
road to Blackhillock in June 2017.
Work at Blackhillock is expected to be completed by autumn 2017.
